The Community Outreach and Education Program of the Center for Research on Environmental Disease at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Science Park - Research Division at Smithville is proud to announce the 7th Annual Environmental Health Sciences Summer Institute for K-12 Educators!

The Summer Institute offers an extensive variety of workshops pursuing the connections between health and the environment. Learn how to help students use scientific enquiry to develop an understanding of the mechanisms that affect the environment and our health.

Q. How much does the Summer Institute cost?

A. The Institute is FREE to attendees, however, we request a $50 refundable registration deposit to discourage NO-SHOWS. Registration deposits will be cheerfully refunded to registrants that attend the Summer Institute and those who cancel by the cancellation date.

Q. Do I have to attend all four days of the Summer Institute.

A. No, but we certainly welcome you to.

Q. What will my expenses be?

A. You will be responsible for your dinners. A breakfast and lunch will be provided daily to workshop attendees. Additionally, travel grants are available on a competitive basis to defray the costs of lodging and transportation.

Summer Institute attendees will:

  • Receive free, award-winning integrated curricular materials.
  • Discuss environmental health issues that directly impact our lives.
  • Participate in hands-on learning activities.
  • Share ideas with scientists and professionals in the science field.
  • Discover how curricular materials address Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
  • Earn continuing professional education hours (Summer Institute is recognized and approved by the State Board of Education as a CPE Provider)

A Wide Range of Topics......

K-12 curricular materials will be featured from a network of institutions nationwide focusing on cancer, genetics, cell biology, indoor and outdoor air pollution, lead poisoning, water quality and toxicology. All workshops are facilitated by educators, scientists, and classroom teachers.
